Significance:
The roaring twenties was a time for great economic prosperity in American cities. There was a massive culture shift so that women now wore "bobbed" hair, shorter skirts, cosmetics, and stiletto heels (fashion). Cigars and cigarettes were signs of wealth, so therefore everyone tried and did smoke. Swing music was very popular and so the Charleston and Swing dances came about. Prohibition, the 18th amendment was in effect until it was repealed by the 21st. The farmers and agribusiness was hurting because crops were not worth much then during WWI. Because of this, they moved to the cities for factory work. The automobile was replacing the horse and buggy as the main mode of transportation. The Stock market crash in October 1929 brought the end to the "Roaring' Twenties" and was the beginning of the Great Depression, the time of economic doom. Politically, Warren Harding was president from 1921-1923(he died in his office). He was a republican. Then Calvin Coolidge takes over from 1923-1929 and he was also a republican. His famous quote was "The business of America is Business."
