Harlem Renaissance:
The Harlem Renaissance was an ethical movement for blacks that extended from the end of WW1 to 1930. It was a movement specifically in creative arts, formally named the “New Negro Movement”. This took place in the neighborhood called Harlem in New York City. The Harlem period had lured blacks to find a “home” where they could gather together and express their true talents after leaving their brutal caste system. The famous people from the Harlem Renaissance were; Writers and Poets: Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, Sterling A. Brown, Jessie Redmon Fauset, Claude McKay, James Weldon Johnson, Zora Neale Hurston , Jessie Fauset, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, and Alain Locke. Musicians: Louis Armstrong, Josephine Baker, Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker, Cab Calloway, Bessie Smith, Count Basie, and Fats Waller. Artists: William H. Johnson, Lois Mailou Jones, Palmer Hayden, Romare Bearden, Augusta Savage, and Aaron Douglas. Actors: Charles Gilpin, Paul Robeson, Ethel Waters, Evelyn Preer, and Adelaide Hall. Dancers: George Snowden, Bill Robinson, Herbert White, Earl Tucker, and Florence Mills.
